Aloft was made in the summer of 2011 for the 15th Artist-Made Kite Show at the August House Gallery in Chicago. The exhibit ran from September 9 through October 14, 2011. The requirement was that the piece not necessarily be able to fly, but look like it could. Made to be placed on a pedestal or table, this work is markedly different from the other entries which were more akin to flyable kites, and were displayed hanging on the walls. This kite is made of welded steel. The base is steel with inlaid bronze. The piece was painted with enamel, and colorful satin ribbons were added. |
